With Black Coffee and Culoe de Song, Watergate has hosted two international headlining Djs from South Africa in the past couple of months. Seeing that Africa as the mother of rhythm, it was only a matter of time before small regional networks turned into an internationally renowned music and club scene - and now their time has come. South Africa's Deep House scene is up and coming and countless labels have produced music which is being increasingly recognised in Germany and the rest of the world. We want to celebrate this new development with a series of up-coming events: RISE!
To kick off, we have once again invited a young artist from Johannesburg to Berlin; Da Capo Mogashoa has become a well-recognised international DJ and producer, performing under Black Coffees label Soulistic. We will also be welcoming back Hyenah and Dede, Floyd Lavine from South Africa, Mr Raoul and Aquarius with a live set. Open your mind and your ass will follow.

Mit Black Coffee und Culoe de Song hatten wir in den letzen Monaten bereits zwei internationale Headliner-DJs Südafrikas zu Gast. Sieht man Afrika als Mutter des Rhythmus, war es letztlich nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis kleine regionale Netzwerken zu international relevanten Musik- und Clubszenen heranwachsen - und diese Zeit scheint jetzt gekommen. Südafrikas Deep House Szene wächst und produziert auf zahllosen Labels Musik, die zunehmend auch in Deutschland Anerkennung findet. All diese Entwicklungen wollen wir ab sofort in einer neuen Veranstaltungsreihe präsentieren: Rise! (eng. für Aufgang und Aufstieg). Zum Auftakt holen wir mit Da Capo Mogashoa erneut einen jungen Künstler aus Johannesburg nach Berlin, der sich unter dem Dach von Black Coffees Label Soulistic zu einem international gefragten DJ und Produzenten entwickelt hat. Wieder mit dabei sind Hyenah und Dede sowie der Südafrikaner Floyd Lavine, Mr Raoul K und Aquarius Heaven mit einem Liveset. Open your mind and you ass will follow.
